Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

Hi guys. Happy Sunday. Today I made a conscious decision to take care of myself, and canceled the 2 events I had for the evening. I wanted to see Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie with my brother, so that’s what … Continue reading

20th Century Women.

20th-century

Yes please. A chick flick/comedy is all needed today. It’s been a ruff month, I swear. My soulmate emailed me about 20th Century Women and I literally was like leggo lmao. Anyone who asks me to see a movie, I will make it a priority haha. If I have time of course. Today was actually supposed to be my bday celebration, but the weather was like nope. Literally, pouring. That shit would have straight flooded.

So crazy because I actually hit this make up event beforehand, which did flood. Thank god I pulled up literally right when it reopened. All the girls said they were waiting in the parking lot for 2 fucking hours. No chill. It was this event called Generation Beauty put on by Ipsy. Man, that shit was so lit lmao.

I went for my girl cause she went out of town. A 2-day pass was fucking $118. Like WHAT. But I guess you’re paying for the products. Literally, so many samples. It was honestly a blast and I went dolo haha. I hustled as much free shit as I could. It was at the L.A. Live event deck, behind Regal Theatres. V interesting, never been up there. I enjoyed getting soaked from head to toe (said no one ever). Of course, my umbrella sits in my closet all year long and the one day I need it, I don’t have it. Of course.

This movie is an Indie film, which means it’s only playing at select theaters. We mobbed to Arclight Hollywood at 5pm. I had just come from Core Power Yoga and was a hot mess, but thankfully the rain made everyone a hot mess. I took the C2 class and it was literally so fucking hard lmao. Like that instructor was advanced af. Anywho. Shout out to my Costa Rica crew, I hadn’t seen them since our trip, and fucking missed them.

It helped that this movie got 90% ratings. Rotten Tomatoes plot: During the summer of 1979, a Santa Barbara single mom and boardinghouse landlord (Annette Bening) decides the best way she can parent her teenage son (Lucas Jade Zumann) is to enlist her young tenants – a quirky punk photographer (Greta Gerwig), a mellow handyman (Billy Crudup) and her son’s shrewd best friend (Elle Fanning) – to serve as role models in a changing world.

This plot doesn’t do justice. You might need to see the trailer, or just go see it haha and trust my judgment. It’s really quirky. I really loved that our entire theater was giggling throughout. It’s 2 hours, and I didn’t check my phone once. Didn’t even think about it. It takes place during a time when people were smoking cigarettes inside their homes. That tripped me out. That mom was smoking at the dinner table, with the food right in front of her.

This film highlighted a lot of the real life issues we deal with in this day in age. So accurate, and so real. It also shows how much a mom struggles how to keep a relationship with her son. Made me feel some typa way. It also takes place in Santa Barbara, my old hood. I enjoyed it a lot. You will too. I promise.

After swallowing the pain of a $17.75 movie ticket, I proceed to lose my parking ticket, which cost another $12. Literally had a meltdown. I decided last minute to hit church at Mosaic for their 7pm service. First time all year, and I was dolo. I liked it cause no one could see me cry lmao. Yelped a lit foot massage after. Shout out to Asia Foot Spa on Sunset.

Crazy week ahead. Sigh.

TRACK OF THE DAY: This song is fire.

Wow. I was too upset last night to write this haha. Idk if you guys notice, I usually write my reviews the night of. But man, shit had me weak yday haha.

ANYWAYS. Living off no sleep. Well maybe an hour or two. I decided to last minute hitch a ride home for the weekend. Got an Uber around 4am to go to Porter Ranch to meet my homeboy who was driving. The plan was to dip at 7am. Shout out to him for accommodating me last minute. Me and my big ass suitcase :/. I fucked up. I had no other bags. That shit was empty too I just had no smaller luggage. SMH.

My Uber driver was dope we talked about Hip Hop the entire time haha. I’ve never gotten an Uber that late… it’s crazy they’re around the clock. But anywho. Porter Ranch is fucking nice. Like wow the houses were beautiful I was like DANG MY BAD. Literally him and his 2 homies were up chillin bc they got turnt haha. They just DJed in Little Tokyo so we were just blazing. All of a sudden his friend goes, “wait, let’s leave.” I was like YAS. I fucks with you lmao. I was so d to dip. Weed makes me awake af and there was no way I could crash at 5am.

So we hit the road. I really felt so bad my luggage barely fit in the whip. It was a tight squeeze fasho. They were so fucking nice though. Bay kids are legit the shit haha. And we listened to lit music the entire ride. At first the kid did NOT let me sleep. I was so sad haha. I brought my airplane neck pillow and everything like I was so ready to PTFO haha so sad.

Anyways it’s weird being home, but I fucking love it. Just posted working rn but I got a busy day ahead. I love Sunnyvale though man. Makes me smile. Trying really hard to be civil with my mama but it’s not that easy.

Okay back to last night. The day started off with a beautiful root canal. Cried like a little bitch, but at least the pain went away. I’ve been out of commission man. Some shit went down Wednesday night that had me super fucked up in my head mentally. I need yoga. Sigh but can’t sneak in here haha.

I missed our music meeting. But met up with my crew at The Melt on Sunset for a Khleo Thomas event. If you don’t know, it’s a grilled cheese spot. And Khleo is Zero from Holes who is now rapping haha. No lie though, the event turned SO ratchet. They rented out the pool in the back and bitches were twerking. I was down for the cause man haha. If you saw my Snaps, you knew. Hella people hopped in the pool too. I was like WHAT haha. Shit sounds mad uncomfortable after haha and during. It was getting nippy out.

Afterwards I convinced my girl to go see Russ at El Rey. He started out with his hit single What They Want. She was an instant fan. He’s cute too. My homeboy works for Columbia Records who Russ just signed to, and guaranteed and interview with him after. He’s been independent for years so that was interesting. Low key the only reason I was down was to get the exclusive. I fuck with Russ but I was so tired. And hungry. Vicious combo.

I brought my other hg for my plus one. She’s super dope and down with dope music. His set was kinda long. He played from like 10:15 to 11:45. His fan base is unreal though. I’m talking… one race lmao. Middle Eastern and Hispanic. Super sold out show though. So I’m sitting here super lit for this dude, only to be completely chewed out after.

Note, he sold out like every show on his tour. And wears the appropriate jersey for each city. Ew to the Lakers but super dope how he does that. He’s been rapping for like 11 years and has a DIY mentality. Also learned he was heartbroken tn and puts his feelings in his music. Drake status.

Earlier that day, my homie hit me and asked DX to unblock Russ on Twitter, which I thought was fucking weird. When my boss checked, he wasn’t. So I thought that was that. But nope. Afterward, he legit went OFF when we met up with him backstage. Saying FUCK HIPHOPDX, blase blase. I was in shock. I’ve never met an artist who hated the site, let alone, hated haha. He completely aligned me with them, which I didn’t appreciate. As if I had something to do with the past.

No homie, I had nothing to do with whatever encounter you had with DX. That’s over now can we move forward with the interview? Nope. He pulled up emails on his phone from us from last year and 2014. It was a little extra but he was fucking pissed. I took it a little personal but I’m over it now. Legit if an artist is gonna act petty like that, I feel bad for him. We are only here to help him out. He’s prob just so into himself he feels like he’s made it.

Sucks though. The show was lit. It was sad af. I said hi to Snow Tha Product who was chilling in the back, hellllla low key. She barely remembered me lmao so sad. I be like that with people though…

Wow life is crazy. Just wanna hide under a rock like Patrick from Spongebob. Straight up.

Hiding bye.

TRACK OF THE DAY: He’s so dope.

Vic Mensa.

IMG_2031

The perks of being social results in security letting you in VIP lmao. Real talk though haha. Shout out to them, me and my hg were able to post up away from the madness. Vic Mensa sold out show at The Roxy. Homeboy tore that shit down. He’s one of those artists that are worth it to see live. He definitely puts on for his fans.

I was sad bc he literally only played his new ish haha. But that’s not bad. His last EP There’s A Lot Going On was very heartfelt. And the song New Bae is bae haha. If you guys aren’t familiar, this is a rapper who really uses his voice and addresses all the terrible things going on in the world. He’s able to create really really good music while letting his feeling out. Idk, homeboy’s super talented. We were admiring how he can sing tn too.

We really wanted to hear Orange Soda though tear. He played 16 Shots twice tn. The crowd at that shit up. I mean, it does go hard. But he had The Roxy beyond lit. Crazy lights too, like an EDM show haha. I was blinded for a little bit. Man. Vic is a real one. He brought out Towkio and Raury, which was interesting haha. And Joey Purp opened for him, but I def missed his set. I know he’s dope though.

Vic’s set was so short! I was sad. He came on a little after 10 and played a little over an hour. Prob had to save his energy for the afterparty at OHM in Hollywood after. *eye roll* I was having this convo with my hg the other day, you will not find me at a club no more haha. Like I’m too old. Or a festival lmao. I feel bad. Tyler The Creator announced the lineup for his Camp Flog Gnaw Festival, which I’ve been the last 2 years. It’s honestly a great time. But I was so unmoved by it haha. Honestly just lazy man. Smh. My friends are stoked though.

What were we talking about lmao damn I get so damn distracted. Like legit will have 10 tabs up on my Google Chrome and forget what I started 5 tabs ago. Smh. Also my computer blows. Today it froze at the office and I almost had a panic attack haha. But really, it legit can’t keep up with how fast I work, or wanna work. Halp.

Okay so back to the show. Vic Mensa is signed to Roc Nation. And has a huge tattoo of the symbol on his neck. I legit think it’s so hot lmao. He also has a HUGE “save money” tattoo on his forearm, in the shape of a stamp. It’s amazing. Tn he wore this silk shirt… and had it unbuttoned. And then took it off. The shirt was sus though. I was like uhhhh.

So this one time…. apologies if I’ve told this story before. I saw him outside on Melrose when I was working at Joyrich. And I told him to come in. I wanted him to fuck with our shit, but he was NOT into it ha. So embarrassing. He looked around and then straight up left the other door lmao. I’ve interviewed him before too at a Roc Nation party, and he wasn’t into it. Sigh. At least he makes dope music. And cares about the world.

Not to talk shit, but he doesn’t look like someone fun to kick it with. What do I know though. He just seems mad serious at all times. Okay I’m done talking about him haha. Work was fun today. We had Mod Sun come through our music meeting. He just collabed with Dej Loah on a track and it’s seriously fire. It’s called We Do This Shit. A feel good turn up track for sure.

We then had TF come through, an LA rapper who was featured on ScHoolboy Q’s album. My hg’s boyfriend manages him. He’s def the definition of a street rapper. Just a raw flow. And yeah. That was dope but I was getting distracted. Felt like I had to get shit done and then my comp was dying. Fail.

I went to yoga for the first time in a minute and it was so great. Hot Power Fusion at Core Power is no joke guys. Yes, I’m probably sweating from the hot ass room and not my workout, but it works haha. And I always feel like I’m getting rid of all the bullshit from the day and… life. Anyone who struggles with anxiety or depression absolutely needs to go to yoga. It’s so mf healing.

Went home, showered, Uber pooled. No breaks. Ever. I didn’t want to park on Sunset tn haha. And #tandemparking. Pool is seriously so much cheaper tho. What a great invention fr. Salute to Uber on that one. Just don’t take it to the airport when you’re trynta catch a flight lmao. Learned my lesson the hard way… a good 3x.

The hype for Suicide Squad is too real. I heard it wasn’t as good as it shoulda been. We’ll see. FriYay tomorrow. Meep.

Should I renew my med card? Serious question…

TRACK OF THE DAY: <3.

TORY LANEZ.

IMG_4027

Tory Lanez from Ontario, Canada. Singer, rapper, producer, fashion designer, you name it. Me and my hg have been on him since day 1. His music sold me the first time I heard it. He’s a different kind of r&b, more trap I would say. His voice is fire. Sounds autotune, but not… I don’t think. Sold out show at The Roxy on Sunset, one of my fav venues. It’s small which makes the show super intimidate.

We ubered bc parking on Sunset is never fun. First of all, I never get anyone in my Uber pool. Second of all, our driver was a trip. An Asian trip haha. His seats were literally covered in some satin floral embroidery ish. AND THEN, his Maps navigation started talking in Chinese. That was crazy haha. It even had directions in Chinese. I tried to start convo but failed real hard haha. We get there and I ask the security where everyone was at. He said inside cause the show started at 8:30. Touche. We pull up around 9:30 and Tory came out around 9:45. Clutch.

Man, we were stoked. His DJ is actually his brother. Cute right? Anyways, Tory’s entire set was so lit. My homeboy saw him perform in the bay and warned me. I love when upcoming artists can get the crowd hyped. He really put on a performance, running from one side of the stage to the other, crowd-surfing, jumping in the crowd. At one point, he crowd-surfed all the way to the bar on the other end of the room. All while on the mic.

He played all my fav tracks: In For It (produced my RL Grime), The Mission, Initiation, Say It. He played Lord Knows, his track with Meek Mill. It’s Meek’s first track on Dreams Worth More Than Nightmares. It doesn’t say Tory’s name so most people dunno. Omg. He played “Karrueche” and dedicated it to Karrueche Tran who ended up being right behind me. Everyone was staring. She’s bae. My girl crush for sure. I wanted to say hi so bad. Just hi haha. She’s super sweet. No joke though, everyone was staring. It really makes me wonder how people deal with fame. She couldn’t just roll to this show solo, or hit the movies in peace. Interesting.

Tory threw it back on us with some old school jams. It seems like he really fucks with that era. I’m talking “Pony” type tracks. I’m sure that’s where he gets a lot of his influence from. No one can deny the music then compared to now.

IMG_4034

We maneuvered our way to the front, and I got to touch his sweaty body as he crowd surfed over my head haha. I got to chop it up with him later, and I asked if he ever gets scared of falling. He said hell na, you can’t have no fear. Word.

I ran into a lotta heads tn. All different lanes. That was real dope. I found out he’s signed to Interscope. Didn’t know that one.

TRACK OF THE DAY: My fav track.
