Ohhhhhhh my goodness. Wonder Woman was the fucking shit. So much so I started the clapping when the movie ended. My homeboy was embarrassed. But I don’t see why. What’s wrong with clapping after a movie? Anyone else agree? … Continue reading
Hidden Figures. NOT Hidden Fences, although that shit was honestly hilarious to me. If you guys live under a rock, this white correspondent at The Golden Globes was interviewing Pharrell, who produced Hidden Figures, and completely butchered the movie title. Fences … Continue reading
Sorry guys, I know I’ve been on a movie binge. Sorry not sorry. Tonight was funny. I literally was going to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just for my brother. His friends and his gf had already seen it… which … Continue reading
Maynnnne. Long day. Left the apartment at 7am and just got home. And just put in laundry. Dang haha. Anyways. I’ve been wanting to see The Intern since it came out! I love Anne Hathaway. Not only that, but I’ve been an intern so many different times. In my midst of trying to figure out what to do with my life, I’ve dipped my toes in so many different paths. I was an intern in human resources, fashion, music, PR, marketing, the list goes on. Wait, I’m still technically an intern in my program now. Eeek. I’ve definitely experienced my share of brutality in the intern world.
7:30 showing at Regal Cinemas in Irvine, at the Marketplace? Idk, but you know how I feel about Irvine lmao. Seriously always feels like a vacation from LA. It was packed. We must have made like 10 rounds in the parking lot. At least we were going somewhere poppin lmao. I shoulda taken a pic of the theater. It was so bright and lit up. I loved it.
The movie was so cute! I went with my bro and his two friends. Pretty sure they enjoyed it too. It reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada, where Anne Hathaway plays the bitch assistant. This time, the tables have turned. She’s the head honcho, who started her own fashion website thing. She went from 4 people to 216 in the office. We definitely noticed how nice the office was haha. They were located in Brooklyn, New York, of course. This typa office could totally have been out in LA too though.
Robert De Niro plays the senior intern, who gets assigned to Anne. Her job is extremely stressful, as she plays the HBIC (hot bitch in charge). Basically, she’s extremely well respected and everyone caters to her. There’s also a fear factor in the workplace, but only cause she’s amazing. At first, I kinda wanted to be her. And then I realized, no I don’t haha. My current life is just as stressful as hers, and when I’m older, there’s no way in hell I’ll last. Talk about burn out. Anyways. You find out later in the movie she actually comes home to a daughter and husband. So on top of her crazy work life, she has a family to take care of. Respect.
Also- she’s actually nice in the film. She wasn’t a crazy boss, but has her moments for sure. Robert De Niro’s character is what sold me. He was the cutest, kindest, most humble, most selfless man. Genuinely good heart-ed. I know it’s fiction, but I’d like to think those people exist. He is such a trooper throughout the whole film. The film was funny. You know I love comedy. There were a lot of characters from Workaholics? My bro and his friends recognized them. They were pretty hilarious.
I was really happy at the end of the movie. So glad I forced my brother and co to go haha. You get a taste of Anne’s personal life and how her work affects her marriage. Very real I thought.
Anyways. Today was long af. Rough. My lease on my car was up and I was returning it for a new lease on the same car. It took literally way too long. And the salesman was so damn pushy. Trynta rob us of our money I swear. I was such a bitch. I already apologized to my brother but I have to again. I honestly worry about my level of patience :/. Wait, I think it’s called anxiety. Fuh haha.
I stopped by Lotus by USC on my way home to see one of my best friends from home. It’s a hookah bar with sushi and sake. It’s so glorious, and prob one of my fav spots to chill. Instead of couches, you sit with your friends in a little cushioned area, almost level to the ground. Everyone, let’s go to Lotus lmao.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Heard this track on my new XM radio on the way home. I knew Raury just dropped a project but never gave it a listen. This track is dope. Homeboy is from ATL. I know DX fucks with him, so he must be good.
YAY TO FREE MOVIES. YAY TO FREE ADVANCE SCREENINGS. Again, not positive how I get these, but no questions asked haha. It’s a company called Gofobo? Not sure but I hope they keep hitting me up haha. I had a plus one so I invited my hg. We both had a long rough day, but it was worth it last night. RL Grime yo. Still on a high haha. It was at 7pm at AMC Century City 15, one of my fav spots. Okay, so my standard late night movie parking routine was def in for a surprise. All my spots were taken! My secret is I park by Gelson’s Supermarket and take the elevator up. Fail. I guess 7pm is poppin on a weekday.
There was a table in the front for the screening and they instructed me to go upstairs. I knew nothing about the movie except that the cast was STACKED and it was about Christmas. DOWN. I love these feel good movies. Fr they’re my top choice. Before the movie started, they warned us since this was an advance screening, no cell phones were allowed. We would be asked to leave if caught. Whoa. Way too serious. They also told us this movie is slated to be released November 13. I felt special! They said they would work out any last minute glitches. But it’s interesting to me bc they didn’t ask for our feedback at the end. What was the point?! haha.
The movie was great. It was pretty much the coming together/reunion of a huge family in the spirit of Christmas. The amount of famous actors and actresses in one film though. It reminded me of Love Actually or Valentine’s Day. It stars Ed Helms from The Hangover, Amanda Seyfried who looks the same in every movie, Diane Keaton who I really like even though people think she’s annoying, John Goodman as her husband, the beautiful Olivia Wilde, Marisa Tomei whose character cracked me up, and many more. Okay have to share: Marisa’s character is in a store trying to find a Christmas present and she tries to steal a brooch by putting it in her mouth and walking out. The security guard stopped her real quick. Comedy.
The film was a little long, 2 hours. But it was definitely entertaining. It made me SO excited for Christmas! Even though I don’t really celebrate, it’s just overall a really happy time of the year. Everyone in good spirits and pretty lights and decorations. About it! Gotta get through Halloween and Thanksgiving first doe.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Been hearing hype on this dude Azizi Gibson. His music is pretty raw, a little dark. He actually celebrated his birthday next door to my work at Bait on Melrose the other day. DX came through and I asked them to put me on a track.
10:35pm showing of Hotel Transylvania 2 at AMC Century City 15 means NO ONE IN THE THEATER lmao. I prefer it that way though. That means we get to talk :). You know I like to chat. Getting shushed in movies is a stab to the heart haha. But yeah, we were feeling it. I love cartoons. Child at heart.
Went with the soulmate. We hadn’t even heard of the first one lmao. Adam Sandler does the voice in this, and it’s pretty intense. He was super in character the whole movie playing Dracula, and it sounded like he had to really strain his voice or go above and beyond. I asked how much actors/actresses made just doing voices, and my hg said they make more. Not confirmed though.
The story goes, Dracula opened up his hotel to humans, which seems to be going well. However, after his grandson is born, he is scared this little boy will not be turning into a vampire. Technically, he should be half human, half vampire. He decides to put this adorable little orange haired boy through training to somehow get his vampire side to surface. It was super cute. There’s so much detail put in kids’ movies that are so easy to miss. They’re so intentional though it’s amazing. Like amazing haha. There was this moment in the movie when Dracula is brushing his teeth, but there were two bristles on the toothbrush, separated by the exact length of his two fangs so he could brush them up and down. It was cute.
First of the month tomorrow. Eek. Where is time going.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Bryson Tiller is hot rn. New wave of R&B. His Trapsoul album is getting a lot of love.
Welcome to Shirley’s movie review blog. Jk. But really, I have no life haha. After a long day, we hit the late night showing of The Perfect Guy in Culver City. If you’re late to the game, they recently remodeled this movie theater to be an Arclight. There is also a bar… so you can turn up and turn down, at the same damn time.
Walking into this, I swear I thought it was a rom-com. All I knew was Michael Ealy was in it, down. Isn’t it interesting how an actor or actress can make you want to see a movie? The acting world is so bizarre to me. I’m content as a spectator. But seriously, those eyes…. He got less attractive as the film went on, unfortunately. The movie begins all super chipper and happy go lucky, a little too much actually. The main female, who my friend informed me was from Niptuck (who actually watched that show?), definitely did not mind having her chest out. Shoot, if I had it like that, I might not either. Kidding.
Anyways, it starts with Sanaa Lathan finding this amazing perfect man, doing everything right (Michael, of course). It was honestly really cheesy and unrealistic, which I guess is expected. He literally does everything right…….. but it doesn’t last long. An incident takes place where she sees his real side and how psychotic he is. At this point, the movie took a left turn. Shit got creepy. I was actually scared at parts, more than The Visit.
It is crazy to think there’s actually stalkers out there ,who dedicate their life to one person due to obsession. Not sure how much this film deserves an in depth review… go if you’re really bored, or want some eye candy. There was only a handful of us in the theater, and we were all laughing at its ridiculousness. At one intense moment in the bedroom, when Michael was nowhere to be found, my friend goes, “he’s under the bed!” My other friend goes… “he’s in the pillow.” Lmao.
I realize I’m lame now and have no desire to go out. I go to movies but will never watch Netflix at home. I don’t judge, but personally, I feel like I’m wasting my time. Even if it’s watching interview with rappers, I’m enhancing my knowledge in something I love. You feel me? That, or my ADD doesn’t allow me to sit still.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Jay Rock of Black Hippy just dropped his 90059 album. This was a single off that, and features Kendrick and the TDE crew. Top Dawg Entertainment is the label they’re all on, FYI. This track goes. Real hip hop. Not that ignorant ish/
